Bio
Dr. Cyrine Ben Dhaou is a vascular scientist and science communicator.
Cyrine holds a dual PhD, having earned her first in Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Sciences from Université Libre de Bruxelles, Belgium, and her second in Life Sciences and Health from the University of Tours, France. Cyrine holds additional degrees in Forensic Medicine and Biology of Aging.
Her research focuses on endothelial biology and atherosclerosis, with a particular interest in understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying cardiovascular diseases. She is also currently collaborating on a NASA-sponsored project investigating the effects of deep space radiation on astronaut health. Prior to her current role, she conducted groundbreaking research on chemerin’s role in tumoral angiogenesis and vascular biology.
Throughout her career, Cyrine has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles and presented her work at prestigious conferences worldwide. She has received several awards and recognition as one of the Top 20 for the TOYP (Ten Outstanding Young Persons) program at the JCI World Congress. Cyrine is also an active professional member of esteemed organizations such as the American Heart Association (AHA) and the North American Vascular Biology Organization (NAVBO). She actively participates in NAVBO’s Communication Committee, dedicated to advancing vascular biology research and knowledge dissemination.
Outside of the lab, Cyrine is a fervent advocate for science communication and public engagement for a social media audience exceeding 200k followers. As the Founder and President of Dr. VoySci Media, she endeavors to bridge the gap between scientific discovery and public understanding, making complex scientific concepts accessible and compelling to diverse audiences worldwide. Her videos encompass summaries of recent research, foundational science lessons, and debunking of misleading viral content. Collectively, these videos have garnered over 10 million views and have been featured on prominent platforms. Cyrine is also part of the WHO Fides Project, combating health misinformation and promoting informed decisions globally.
Vascular Scientist
I’m a current researcher based in the US working on several ongoing projects. Malfunction and malformation of blood vessels are associated with a broad range of medical conditions, including cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and neurological disorders. My ultimate goal is to find a way to reverse the process of abnormal vessel formation and restore normal function to these vessels. This can enhance the efficacy of cancer treatments and anti-tumor immunity, reestablish blood flow to ischemic hearts and limbs, and prevent blindness caused by damaging of the retina in diabetes.
