Why I do what I do

Ever since I was young, I’ve been curious about the world around me. I always asked questions like “why” and “how”. I’m just a curious creature who finds pure delight in unraveling the mysteries of life, one funny “aha!” moment at a time.

Growing up in Tunisia, it brought me immense joy when I could make sense of things and unravel the mysteries around me. I loved going to school because it felt like a safe place, and I absolutely enjoyed learning new things. As I grew up, I dreamed of becoming an actress or a scientist. I decided to focus on becoming a scientist and dedicate myself to understanding the complexities of the natural world.

So, I was 20 years old when I embarked on a life-changing journey. I boarded a plane which would take me to France. Looking out of the plane window, I remembered seeing my parents cry in the airport. On that day, I learned how to be fearless. I could see the fear in their eyes, but I was not scared. Instead, I turned towards the new horizon.

I was thrilled to secure a spot at University of Lorraine in France, where I embarked on a Forensic Medicine degree with the intention of becoming a scientist expert who can travel to disaster-stricken areas, to identify cadavers. Despite achieving top honors in my studies, including being the top-ranking student in my class, I still faced limitations in pursuing my goal. This particular field had specific requirements and opportunities.

After completing my degree in forensic medicine, I found myself embarking on a new adventure studying the biology of aging at the University of Paris Descartes. Yes, I went from studying the dead to studying the secrets of living longer! Sometimes life takes unexpected turns, and I couldn’t resist the allure of exploring the mysteries of aging instead.

Anyway, I loved my biology of aging degree, ended up specializing in neurosciences and molecular biology.

Then I went on to do a Dual PhD Degree in cancer and vascular research at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB, Belgium) and the University of Tours (France).

By the time I completed my Ph.D., I realized that my journey in the lab has been just the beginning. While I didn’t pursue a career in acting, the appreciation for creativity and self-expression has always remained with me. Through storytelling, engaging content, and a touch of humor, I started sharing my lab adventures and scientific discoveries on Instagram. Little did I know that this leap into science communication would open doors to a whole new world of connecting with people and inspiring others to embrace the beauty of science.

It’s been an incredible journey so far.

When I’m not discussing science or raising awareness about important matters, I have a profound love for traveling and discovering new places. Throughout my life, I have lived in four different countries and have had the opportunity to visit over 30 countries. The experiences I’ve had are truly extraordinary, from skydiving to scuba-diving and much more. As I continue to seek out exciting adventures, diving with great white sharks is next on my list.

On a warm summer day, my ideal place is a field where I can take off my shoes, put flowers in my hair, and just dance. I love embracing the freedom and joy of life through movement and being connected to nature. It’s all about enjoying the simple pleasures and creating unforgettable memories.
